Duarte

Antonio Duarte is Associate Professor at FMV and Coordinator of CIISA. He has published 48 papers (h index of 24, 4210 citations – Scopus), participated in a number of international/national research projects, supervised 8 PhD Thesis and got 2 Scientific Awards. Investigates on the role of cell signalling pathways in the regulation of physiological and tumour angiogenesis. Has collaborated over the years with different biotech startups in the development of biopharmaceuticals aimed at inhibiting tumor neoangiogenesis and cancer stem cell growth, carrying out preclinical efficacy testing in transgenic mouse tumour models. As CEO of Genibet Biopharmaceuticals between February of 2008 and July 2010, led the process of GMP certification of the first biopharmaceutical production unit in Portugal and, subsequently, the production of the first Portuguese made biopharmaceutical, a conjugated vaccine against typhoid fever developed by the Novartis Vaccines Institute of Global Health.
